Samuel C. Hyde, Jr. Ph.D. is Leon Ford Endowed Chair, Professor of History and Director of the Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies at Southeastern Louisiana University. He is author or editor of eleven books including the award winning Pistols and Politics: Feuds, Factions and the Struggle for Order in Louisiana's Florida Parishes, 1810-1935," recipient of the Michael V. R. Thomason Award for best book on Gulf South History 2019, and screenwriter and producer of five docu-drama films including American Crisis, American Shame: The National Consequences of Coastal Erosion, winner of the gold medal at the New York International Independent Film and Video Awards, 2012. His research has been highlighted in national and international media outlets such as, The New York Times, Washington Post, ABC World News Tonight, National Public Radio, The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, and the British Broadcasting Corporation among other outlets. He is the current president of the Louisiana Historical Association.
